Driving Back to Indiana
We decided to drive a different route on our way home, (there’s only so much Kansas you can handle,) so instead of taking 70 home, we took 80 home. The movers came to collect our rental furniture on Thursday, and we packed up the car and got a late start. We made it out of Colorado and stayed on the west side of Nebraska.
The next day, we made it to Iowa City (which was quite a stretch with a two year old and a cat in the backseat,) and found that there was a Graduate hotel that was cheaper than most options. I had heard of Graduate hotels when I was working in hotel management last year—it’s a niche brand that’s only available in college towns, so we decided to check it out.
We weren’t disappointed.
The next day, we drove through the rest of Iowa and through Illinois. Ries went to Knox College for a semester his freshman year, so we decided to stop by and see Knox. (I’d never been there.) Ries says Knox’s Old Main and DePauw’s East College are sister buildings, but I can’t find anything that supports that online.
After we stopped at Knox, we carried on our merry way and made it to Indiana, stopping to stay the night at my parents’ house before driving down to Bloomington the next day. Phew! All in all, it was very successful with no tears from parents, Gus, or Whimsy.
